New Gauri Shankar
About This Spot
New Gauri Shankar unfolds like a modest, no-frills local retreat where the rhythm is set by the hum of hungry patrons and the clatter of plates filled with rich, robust fare. Nestled along the bustling stretch of Bm Road in Kirangoor, this military hotel-style eatery carries the raw, unpolished charm of village kitchens, inviting those who seek the comforting grip of authentic, earthy flavors.
Stepping inside, you enter a world where time slows just enough to appreciate a meal that’s as much about heritage as it is about hunger. The setting is straightforward — practical wooden tables, an open view of the busy kitchen, and a mismatched collection of chairs that reflect the straightforwardness of the place. It’s not a spot that fusses over décor; instead, it earns character from the steady flow of regulars and the promise of deeply satisfying mutton preparations.
The experience at New Gauri Shankar is defined by the array of thoughtful, village-style mutton dishes offered throughout the day. The air carries a hint of spices warming in the pan, a scent that blends the earthiness of ragi with the sharp, inviting aroma of pepper and fresh herbs. Whether it’s the tender mutton chops paired with the traditional ragi mudde or the punchy, pepper-accented chicken dry fry, each bite speaks of skill honed through years of intimate culinary knowledge passed down in local kitchens.
This is a place where every part of the mutton finds its moment — from the thoughtfully spiced liver fry to the hearty gravies that capture the essence of Karnataka’s countryside fare. The atmosphere swells with eager conversations punctuated by the occasional rush when the clock strikes midday; lunch here becomes a communal ritual, a gathering rooted less in perfection and more in genuine, hearty satisfaction.
For those who wander off the beaten path, New Gauri Shankar holds a quiet promise: a glimpse into the unassuming side of regional cuisine where the layers of taste come from tradition and earnest cooking rather than glossy presentation. It’s a hub for those who appreciate the tactile, flavorful parts of mutton that rarely make it to urban menus, a somewhat rugged haven where the food’s soul is laid bare and enjoyed without pretense.

Gowri shankar military hotel is a mutton lover paradise. You get mutton and every part of mutton here. Mutton Chops, Mutton liver, mutton gurda, mutton kaima ball, mutton kaima fry, mutton thale mamsa (head), Mutton Suthakaralu are available. 12pm is the perfect time to go for lunch here. Gets very crowded later on and the dishes sells off very quickly. Note that this is completely village style of cooking.

A Hidden Gem for Authentic Flavors Near Srirangapatna !! We recently stopped by this military hotel near Srirangapatna for breakfast, and it was truly an experience worth writing about. The moment we stepped in, we were greeted by the rustic charm of the place, which instantly set the tone for a hearty and authentic meal. The highlight of our breakfast was undoubtedly the kheema fry. Cooked to perfection, the dish had a depth of flavor that spoke to its authenticity. Every bite was an explosion of taste that took me back to traditional recipes passed down through generations. Another standout was the kaal soup —hands down, the best I've ever had. The broth was both light and flavorful, packed with a perfect blend of spices that made it comforting and rich. It's a must-try, especially if you're looking for something warm and soul-satisfying in the early hours. Considering the quality and authenticity of the food, the meal was totally worth the price. If you're in or around Srirangapatna and looking for a place that serves up true military-style dishes, this hotel is a must-visit!

The best Nati style fresh Mutton we ever had. Chops, Kaima and Idli were the best combo.. The Ambience is not so entertaining for Family crowd, but it's ok for only Guys. We tried Ragi mudhe and Mutton chops, Thale mutton and Kaima. All were good and well cooked. Only thing missing was the Ghee rice, only white rice is served. Hopefully they introduce it in future.

My favorite place for a spicy, lip smacking mutton curry. I used to eat here regularly when I used to live in Mysore years ago. I went here again after years, and mutton curry is exactly how I can remember it, the curry/gravy is beyond amazing, loved the heat, the mutton broth flavor. The mutton was cooked perfectly too, moist and soft! I missed pairing it with the Thatte Idly as I went there by 12 noon, but do go in the morning and pair it with the Thatte Idly. I also tried their chicken curry, it’s a great option only if you don’t eat mutton! Because the mutton curry is supreme! Hotel located to main road, dabha style ambiance, I don't recommend for family's, Hygeine is less. Prices are not reasonable. People who can enjoy eating thale mamsa, botti, kaima dry, Brain fry, Sutha Karalu, mutton chops can try here... taste is average...
